Stock graphic.WASHINGTON, D.C.- The United States Department of Labor has just announced the availability of several new grants totaling about $500 million to fund projects that prepare workers for green jobs in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries.
The grant programs being offered are primarily for organizations, companies, and government agencies that would like to the opportunity to train groups of people for the jobs in green industries.
Among the grants being offered are the following:
- Energy Training Partnership Grants: Approved applicants will need to submit proposals for projects that will provide training and placement services in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries for workers impacted by national energy and environmental policy. In addition, the proposal must provide training for individuals in needed of updated training related to energy efficiency and renewable energy industries, and unemployed workers. Proposed projects must be developed and implemented through strategic partnerships. Approximately $100 million in grant funds will be provided to 20 to 30 projects ranging from $2 to $5 million each.
- Pathways Out of Poverty: Approved applicants will need to submit proposals for projects that will provide training and placement services within the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. Approximately $150 million will be distributed among projects that meet the grant requirements.
- Green Capacity Building Grants: Approved applicants will need to submit proposals for projects that will build the capacity of the department’s funded training program to ensure that targeted groups are prepared to meet the needs of the country’s expanding green industries. The department expects to award between 50 and 100 grants under this process, providing grant awards ranging from $50,000 to $100,000.
